4日目のスタートです。朝のイーストベイ（ヘイワード）は曇り空でしたが、その後は快晴となり、今日も23℃前後の涼しく爽やかな一日になりました。
本日は授業はお休みで、スタンフォード大学、Google、Metaを訪問するエクスカーションデーです。
【スタンフォード大学 キャンパスツアー】
まずはサンフランシスコ・ベイエリアの名門、スタンフォード大学へ。
現役大学生2名の方がキャンパスツアーと座談会を担当してくださいました。
お二人とも日本人ですが海外生活が長く、ネイティブスピーカーということで、ツアーはすべて英語で行われました。
はじめにスタンフォードの象徴である大聖堂（メモリアル・チャーチ）とタワーの前で記念撮影をしました。その後は2組に分かれてキャンパスを案内していただきました。
スタンフォードはスポーツの強豪校としても有名で（佐々木麟太郎さんも在校生ですね！）、カフェテリアの中にはアスリート学生だけが使える専用フロアがあるそうです。歴史ある建物やオブジェ、美しい植物にも生徒たちは見入っていました。
座談会では、生徒からの質問にたくさん答えていただきました。受験や進路のこと、なぜスタンフォード大学を選んだのか、どうやって英語を勉強すれば良いのか――。ランチタイムもご一緒し、とても貴重な時間を過ごすことができました。
そしてみんなが楽しんだのがスタンフォードのブックストアです。4つのフロアに分かれており、スタンフォードグッズから教科書、カフェまで揃う見ごたえのある空間で、生徒たちはここでお土産を購入していました。
【Google ビジターセンター】
続いてGoogle本社のビジターセンターへ。最新のGoogle製品や、Googleの動画生成AI「VEO」を体験しました。オセロになっているオブジェがとても人気で、みんなで写真を撮っていました。
【Meta Lab】
次はMeta Labを訪問。VRヘッドセットの “Meta Quest”、写真や動画が撮れる”Ray-Ban Meta Glass”、音楽が聞こえるOakleyのサングラスなどを実際に体験し、その技術（と金額にも！）に驚いていました。「初任給で買おうかな～」と話す子もいました^^

【無人AIタクシー Waymo 体験】
そして今日は無人AIタクシー「Waymo」も体験しました。
「すごい！」「ドキドキする！」と様々な声が挙がりましたが、センサーで周囲の車やコーン、ごみ箱までしっかり認識し、とても安全に運転する様子にみんな大興奮でした。
自動運転技術を体感できる、シリコンバレーならではの貴重な体験となりました。
【ナイトアクティビティ：Ultimate Frisbee & リフレクション】
夕食後のナイトアクティビティでは「Ultimate Frisbee（アルティメット）」を行いました。フリスビーを落とさずにパスでつなぎ、コート両端のエンドゾーン内でディスクをキャッチすると得点になるスポーツです。フリスビーを投げたりキャッチしたりするのは案外難しく、みんなで大笑いしながら走り回っていました。
今日のリフレクションでは、スタンフォード、Google、Meta、Waymoと多くの新しい体験をしたことが特に印象深かったようで、生徒たちは皆しっかりと英語で振り返りを話すことができていました。
中には元から英語が話せる子もいますが、他の皆さんも英語で話すことが自然になってきており、初日・二日目と比べると、ネイティブの生徒や先生、ゲストの方々にも積極的に話しかけられるようになってきています。
キャンプはここからが本番です。明日も皆さんが奮闘する姿を楽しみにしています。See you tomorrow！

Q. スタンフォード大学のツアーは英語でも大丈夫でしたか？
A. ツアーと座談会を担当してくださった現役大学生お二人は、海外生活が長いネイティブスピーカーで、すべて英語で案内してくださいましたが、時々わからないような時には日本語も交えて話していただきました。生徒たちは受験や進路、英語学習の方法などについて英語で質問し、ランチも一緒に過ごすなど、自然にコミュニケーションを取ることができていました。
Q. Waymo（無人AIタクシー）の体験は安全でしたか？
A. はい。Waymoはセンサーで周囲の車やコーン、ごみ箱までしっかり認識し、とても安全に運転していました。生徒たちは「すごい！」「こわい！」と声を上げながらも、自動運転技術を安全に体感することができました。
Q. 参加にはどのくらいの英語力が必要ですか？
A. 元から英語が得意な生徒もいますが、そうでない生徒も日々の活動を通じて少しずつ英語で話すことに慣れていきます。初日と比べると、ネイティブの先生や生徒、お店やゲストの方々に自分から話しかけられるようになる様子が見られ、英語力よりも積極性が大切だと感じています。
GIQ Silicon Valley Summer Camp – Day 4
Day 4 begins. The morning in the East Bay (Hayward) started out cloudy, but the skies soon cleared into bright sunshine, giving us another cool and refreshing day at around 23°C. There were no classes today—instead, we spent the day visiting Stanford University, Google, and Meta.
Stanford University Campus Tour
We first headed to Stanford University, one of the most prestigious universities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Two current Stanford students led our campus tour and a Q&A session. Although both are Japanese, they have lived abroad for many years and are native English speakers, so the entire tour was conducted in English. We began with a group photo in front of Stanford’s iconic Memorial Church and tower.
We then split into two groups to explore the campus. Stanford is also famous as a sports powerhouse, and we learned that the cafeteria even has a floor reserved exclusively for student-athletes. The students were captivated by the historic buildings, the artwork, and the beautiful greenery around campus.
During the Q&A session, our guides kindly answered many of the students’ questions—about entrance exams and future paths, why they chose Stanford, and how best to study English. We also shared lunch together, making it a truly valuable experience.
Everyone especially enjoyed the Stanford Bookstore. Spread across four floors, it offers everything from Stanford merchandise and textbooks to a café, and the students happily picked out souvenirs there.
Google Visitor Center
Next, we visited the Visitor Center at Google’s headquarters. The students tried out the latest Google products and experienced Google’s video-generation AI, “VEO.” The Othello-style art installation was especially popular, and everyone gathered to take photos.
Meta Lab
We then went on to Meta Lab. The students got hands-on with the Meta Quest VR headset, Ray-Ban Meta Glasses that can take photos and videos, and Oakley sunglasses that play music—amazed by both the technology and the price tags! One student even joked about buying a pair with their first paycheck someday.
Waymo Self-Driving Taxi
Today the students also rode in a Waymo self-driving AI taxi. There were plenty of “Amazing!” and “Scary!” reactions, but everyone was thrilled to see how the car’s sensors recognized surrounding vehicles, cones, and even trash cans while driving very safely. It was a truly Silicon Valley experience that let them feel autonomous driving technology firsthand.
Evening Program: Ultimate Frisbee
For the after-dinner night activity, we played Ultimate Frisbee. Players pass the disc without dropping it and score by catching it inside the end zone at either end of the court. Throwing and catching the frisbee turned out to be surprisingly tricky, and everyone ran around laughing together.
In today’s reflection, the many new experiences—Stanford, Google, Meta, and Waymo—clearly left a strong impression, and every student was able to share their thoughts confidently in English.
Some students were already comfortable in English, but the others are steadily becoming more natural in speaking it too. Compared to the first and second days, they are now more actively approaching native students, teachers, shop staff, and guests.
