Day 4 – July 29th 2024

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!
We started off the day at the cafeteria for breakfast. Today we were served some delicious french toast. Here’s a picture of Yuri’s plates! Americans eat big portions right?
After filling up with breakfast we headed straight to class! Today, students started a new project where each group has to come up with some new food products that blend two popular national foods. Some of the ideas the groups came up with were Acai Crepes, Tteokbokki Curry, and Taco Takoyaki! Students also went out around campus to ask some UCSD students questions on their ideas. Would you eat Okonomiyaki Pizza?
After working hard on projects we went to eat some lunch to get ready for our trip to Seaport Village. We first arrived at Coronado island where we went over a long bridge over the ocean. Enjoying the nice weather, we went on a ferry ride to get back to the mainland where we were greeted by the big Midway Museum!
We then walked over to Seaport Village where students were able to view San Diego Bay while enjoying a relaxing time through all the shops. We even stopped by the family owned toy store founded in San Diego called Geppettos! There were lots of murals on the walls where the American and Japanese friends were able to take some photos with.
Driving back to the dorms, we were also able to take a peek at the San Diego International airport! Lots of plane going to lots of different places around the world. For dinner, we had gnocchi and some braised pork. To relax for the night, we watched Toy Story for our night activity! A classic for American children for sure.
Today was filled with hard work and stepping out of our comfort zones to better our project making skills. Tomorrow will be our first “formal” project presentations; Can’t wait to hear the details on what everyone created!

おはようございます！
今日の朝食はおいしいフレンチトーストをいただきました。ユリのお皿の写真です！アメリカ人はたくさん食べるでしょ？
朝食でお腹を満たした後は、そのまま授業に向かいました。
今日のプロジェクトは、人気の国民的フード2つを組み合わせて新しい商品を開発するというものです。
アサイークレープ、トッポギカレー、タコスたこ焼きなどのアイディアがでました。
また、生徒たちはキャンパスのあちこちに出かけ、自分たちのアイデアについてUCSDの学生に質問しました。お好み焼きピザは食べたいですか！？
プロジェクトに励んだ後は、ランチを食べ、シーポートビレッジへ向かいました。
まずはコロナドアイランドに到着し、海にかかる長い橋を渡りました。
良いお天気を楽しみながら、フェリーに乗って本土に戻ると、大きなミッドウェイ博物館が迎えてくれました。
その後シーポートビレッジまで歩き、サンディエゴ湾を眺めながら、のんびりとお店を巡りました。
サンディエゴで創業した家族経営のおもちゃ屋さん「Geppettos」にも立ち寄りました！
壁にはたくさんの壁画があり、アメリカ人と日本人の友達が一緒に写真を撮っていました。
寮に戻る途中、サンディエゴ国際空港を見ることができました。
夕食はニョッキと豚肉の煮込みです。
夜はみんなでトイ・ストーリーを見てリラックスしました。
アメリカの子供たちにとっては、間違いなく古典的な作品ですね。
今日はプロジェクト作りのスキルを向上させるためにハードワークに挑戦し、コンフォートゾーンから一歩踏み出す経験ができたことでしょう。
明日は、初めてのプロジェクト発表会です。
みんながどんな風に準備しているか楽しみです！
