Day 8: August 2nd, 2024
Sunny and Humid (80°)
Good morning everyone!
Happy Friday! Today is another project day where students created a survey to ask university students about their expectations of being a college student. Students brainstormed different types of questions to ask UCSD students roaming around campus! Though a little nervous, the Japanese students did their best to interview the college students! They then presented their findings to the class after making charts and infographics on their posters!
After working hard in class today, we headed off to get some lunch. The menu today was fried chicken and spaghetti, great fuel for our hike today! It was very very hot so we made sure to bring our hats and water to stay cool and hydrated! We got to see some of the natural beauty of San Diego, take a look at the scenery!
We then headed over to the popular grocery store called Trader Joes to stock up on some unique snacks (and of course the famous tote bags). It was nice and cool inside and we got some refreshments to cool off at Starbucks as well!
We decided to head back to the campus to have some well needed free time after all that time under the sun. Dinner tonight was some seafood chowder and gyudon inspired beef, a little taste of home I hope! Although it was a hefty meal, we saved enough room to try some American snacks for our night activity! We laid out different types of chips, cookies, and candies to have the Japanese students try. My favorite one is the candy Swedish Fish!
We also handed out all the finished tie dye shirts to the students today. Special thanks to the university student leaders Kana and Hosana for working so hard washing and drying all of the beautiful shirts for the students! They all came out so great!
Ending the night with an exciting activity was definitely tiring, so we soon went to bed. Tomorrow is another exciting day as we will be going to our first amusement park, SeaWorld! Can’t wait to see all the sea animals!

今日はもう一つのプロジェクトの日です。
生徒たちは、大学生になることへの期待について尋ねるアンケートを作りました。キャンパス内を歩き回っているUCSDの学生に質問するために、様々な質問を考えました。少し緊張しながらも、日本の生徒たちは一生懸命、大学生にインタビューをしていました。その後、ポスターにグラフやインフォグラフィックを作成し、クラスで発表しました。
がんばった後はランチです。今日のメニューはフライドチキンとスパゲティで、ハイキングに備えます。とても暑かったので、涼しく水分補給ができるように、帽子や水を持参しました。サンディエゴの自然の美しさを見ることができました。
その後、Trader Joesという人気の食料品店に向かい、ユニークなスナックを買い込みました（もちろん有名なトートバッグも）。店内はとても涼しく、スターバックスで涼みました。
太陽の下で過ごした体を休めるため、キャンパスに戻って休憩時間です。今夜の夕食はシーフードチャウダーと牛丼のようなビーフでした。少し日本の味を思い出せたでしょうか？ボリューム満点の食事でしたが、夜のアクティビティーのためにアメリカン・スナックを食べる余裕を残しておきました！チップス、クッキー、キャンディーなどを並べ、日本の生徒たちに食べてもらいました。私のお気に入りはスウェーデンフィッシュというお菓子です！
また、完成したタイダイシャツを生徒たちに配りました。大学生リーダーのKanaとHosanaが、みんなのために一生懸命洗って乾かしてくれたことに感謝します！みんなとても素敵に仕上がりました！
エキサイティングなアクティビティで夜を終えるのは確かに疲れたので、すぐにベッドに入りました。明日は初めてのアミューズメントパーク、シーワールドに行く予定です！海の動物たちを見るのが待ちきれないね！
