Can you all believe it is our last day at UCSD?!? We have finally come to our last day in San Diego for our Kizuna Camp! It feels like it went by so quickly!!
In the morning, we had our Cultural Project Workshop! Students were given time to work together to finish their posters and their scripts. We were joined by our Classroom Assistants (Griffin, Kim, Morgan, and Ashleigh) and we had 2 College Students (Ben and Zach) helping students as well.
It seemed most students were very nervous for their presentations, but they were able to get help from all the Americans! Our first group presented about the differences between food in Japan and America. Students explained the differences in sizes and about how American portions are huge!!
For our second group, they presented on American and Japanese fashion. They talked about how American fashion is more colorful, and how Japanese fashion uses simpler colors. I also learned about “Gaucho Pants!” Very interesting differences!!
Our next group presented about School Life in Japan and America. They talked about rules, lunch, commute, and much more. Some students in the group travel around 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to school! That is quite the journey!!
For our fourth group, we learned about traditional instruments in Japan and America. It was interesting to hear about the Shamisen and even Kabuki! I learned a lot of interesting things about how similar some of the instruments are to American instruments. Very impressive research!
For our last presentation, they presented the difference between American and Japanese homes. It was interesting to learn about Japanese addresses and the differences between bathrooms. It was a great way for the audience to learn about Japanese homes 🙂 Great job!
After our presentations, we went to the Bookstore one last time for last minute shopping… and some Starbucks! The coffee helped everyone to get ready for the party after lunch!!
For our beach party, students had the chance to go swimming, play at the beach, and play sports with our American students 🙂 Most students ran to the beach as soon as we arrived because it was a very hot day!!
Some students also got to play volleyball, frisbee, and more! It was a great way to conclude our Kizuna Camp with American Students!!
After playing in the sun, we all gathered together to hand out the certificates of completion to all the students. Everyone did a great job during this camp and really pushed themselves to improve in English. I am so proud of everyone 🙂
The longest event was taking all of the group pictures! Students were all exchanging LINE IDs and taking great pictures with each other!
It was great to see all the smiles on everyone’s faces! Some students were feeling sad about saying goodbye, but they were all happy about being able to get to know each other 🙂
The hardest part of the day was getting all of the students off the bus and saying goodbye to the American students! It was hard to separate everyone and everyone was feeling sad saying goodbye to all the new friends they made over these past 12 days. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to most American students today.
Although everyone was sad to say goodbye, students still had a great time at the beach together! This was a fun day to be a part of because you could see the strong bonds everyone has made in such a short time. It really shows how hard everyone worked together throughout this program. I really can’t express how proud I am of every student that participated in the camp! They have all done such a great job and they should also be proud!!
Tomorrow, we will go to Disneyland and will have 2 American students join!! I have a feeling we are all going to have an amazing time tomorrow 🙂

今日がUCSDでの最後の日だなんて信じられますか！？キズナキャンプのサンディエゴで過ごす最後の日を迎えました。とっても早く感じられます！
午前中はまず、カルチャープロジェクトワークショップで、ポスターやプレゼンテーション内容をまとめる時間を取りました。クラスアシスタントのグリフィン、キム、モーガン、アシュリーに加え、ベンとザックという大学生2人も参加し、生徒たちをサポートしてくれました。
皆さんとてもナーバスになっていましたが、アメリカ人生徒からのヘルプも受けながら仕上げました。最初のグループは日本とアメリカの食の違いについて発表しました。食べ物のサイズの違いでは、アメリカのサイズがどれだけ大きいかを説明していました。
二つ目のグループはファッションの違いについて発表しました。アメリカのファッションはカラフルですが、日本はもっとシンプルな色を使っていると話していました。私が初めて知ったのは「ガウチョパンツ」です！とても興味深い違いがありました。
次のグループはスクールライフについて発表しました。校則、ランチ、通学などたくさんの違いを説明しました。このグループの一人は学校まで一時間半もかけて通学していると話していました。なかなかの旅ですね！
4つ目のグループは伝統的な楽器がテーマです。三味線や歌舞伎についての話はとても興味深かったです。逆に、日本とアメリカの楽器の似ている点についても知ることができました。素晴らしいリサーチです！
最後のグループはアメリカと日本の家の違いです。日本の住所やバスルームの違いが興味深かったです。観客のアメリカ人にとっても日本の家について学ぶ良いチャンスでした。グッジョブ！
プレゼンテーションの後は、ブックストアに行き、最後のショッピングと、スターバックスも楽しみました！コーヒーのおかげでランチの後のパーティーに向けての気合いが整いました。
ビーチパーティーでは海水浴やビーチを楽しんだり、アメリカ人生徒たちとスポーツを楽しみました。今日はとても暑かったので、ほとんどの生徒たちは真っ先に海に走っていきましたよ！
ビーチバレーやフリスビーもして、キズナキャンプ最後の時間をアメリカ人高校生と一緒に楽しく締めくくることができました。
そして、一人ひとりに修了証書を授与しました。皆さんとてもよく頑張り、英語力を上げるための努力は素晴らしかったです。皆さんを誇りに思います。
そして一番時間を費やしたのは、それぞれの写真撮影です。生徒たちはLINEを交換したり、友達同士でたくさんの写真を撮っていました。
皆さんの笑顔が素晴らしかったです。さよならを言うのは寂しいですが、新しい友達ができたことをとても喜んでいました。
なかなか離れることができず、みんなをバスから降ろしてアメリカ人の友達にさよならをするのに苦労しました！この12日間でできた新しい友達にさよならをすることは、とても寂しそうでした。残念ながら、今日でお別れをしなければいけません。。
寂しい気持ちにもなりましたが、ビーチではとても楽しく過ごすことができ、全員がこの短い間に築き上げた強いつながりを確かめることができた、とても素晴らしい一日でした。このプログラムを通して全員がどれだけ一緒にがんばってきたかの現れだと思います。
私がどれだけみんなのことを誇りに思っているか表現しきれないくらいです。みなさん本当によく頑張りました。皆さん自身を誇りに思ってほしいです。
明日はディズニーランドに行きますが、2名のアメリカ人高校生も参加してくれることになりました！明日もとっても楽しい一日になることと思います。
